Fishing
You can go fishing in various locations in Shadows over Loathing if you have the fishing rod or another rod in inventory. Most fishing spots will reset each day after you sleep.
Fishing often provides just a fish in a sack, useful only for selling. Depending on the fishing spot you're using, you may find other items or a bit of Meat.
The Expert Fishery perk adds a bit of meat or one wet cigarette to every catch.
Toilet fishing requires that you equip a fishing rod, not just have it in inventory.
Fishing Rods
- fishing rod: Normal fishing results.
- salty fishing rod: Normal results, but deals more damage as a weapon.
- hot rod: Normal results, but deals Hot Damage as a weapon.
- cursed fishing rod: Can catch shadow items. Caught fish are worth ~2 more .
- Chapman's doubler: Catches double the fish.
- Tracy's impossible rod: Can catch a variety of items.
The accursed fishing rod (obtained by uncursing the cursed one) lacks a line and can't be used for fishing.
Mechanics
Each fishing spot has its own odds for giving "junk" (fish in a sack), Meat, or items. The one exception is the trough at Sandwich Museum, which defers to your fishing rods for fishing odds:
- Most rods: 40% junk, 20% meat, 40% items
- Cursed rod: 75% junk, 25% items
- Tracy's rod: 30% junk, 20% meat, 50% items
Spots with a limit of "Once" or "If you don't have any" give only their specific item. Other spots, excepting the ones that give only junk or meat, have a list of items. If you're using the cursed or Tracy's rod and fish up an item, that rod's list is added to the spot's list, then one item is selected at random. Thus, spots with fewer items (like the pot at The Maize Maze) are more likely to give rod-specific items.
