Quests

Gatorman Fortress is where you complete the Chapter 4 main quest. There would normally be a detailed walkthrough here, but it's fairly linear, so going down the location details below provides a pretty good walkthrough.

Here's the short version. First:

  • Defeat the outside guards, or
  • Sneak past them and climb through the pipe.

Then:

  • Defeat both sets of inside guards,
  • Make them a feast in the Kitchen, or
  • Give them a nap with the chemical barrel in the Supply Closet.

And then:

  • Take a length of rusty chain from the supply closet.
  • Follow the gatorman king down until he ends up dead.
  • Grab the cursed key from his remains and open Charles' cage.

  • A shadow pouch.
  • Some gatorman guards at the front door. You can fight them, or sneak past in an amazing way with 6ish Moxie.
  • If you sneak past, you can crawl through a pipe if you have 7ish Stench Armor. This puts you in the Kitchen.

Inside

  • 3 guards at a table. You can fight them. If you're coming from the kitchen, sneak attack them with 5ish Moxie to remove the Gatorman rot-tooth from the fight.
  • 4 guards in the hall. You can get rid of them and the table guards peacefully: see Kitchen or Supply Closet, below.
  • Charles, in a cage!
  • Doors to Kitchen, Supply Closet, and Throne Room.
  • An anvil where you can forge the mob's documents (but not forge an old ploughshare into a beaten sword - bug?).

Kitchen

  • Find a a refrigerator on a chain.
  • A dinner bell. Try to ring it; this enables making a feast.
  • Kitchen sink / prep area. With 6ish Muscle, you can prepare a feast. Then ring the dinner bell to remove all the guards (inside and out) and get 40 XP.
  • A pipe to the outside.

    • Or avoid the beams with 7ish Moxie.
    • A pedestal on the other side deactivates the guardian.
  • A goliath which squishes the gator king.

You can fight the huge golem if you feel like it. It's by far the hardest fight in the game; it has over 1000 HP and hits like a truck driven by an elephant who hates you. Defeating it gets an achievement, "Just Showing Off".
