Quests
- Pass all your S.I.T. courses to enter the Stacks.
- An old man, Dean Wormwood, is performing a dark ritual. You need to get past him.
- Wearing the terribly cursed fedora, you can speak in shadow-tongue, and he replies. You can't understand him and make no progress.
- You can fight him.
- You can interrupt him with Brag/Bewitch/Bamboozle (6ish mainstat), sending him into the shadow portal.
- If you've researched Wormwood and Jeffy at the faculty lookup book, and researched the two unlocked dates at The Watchful Eye Office, you can ask about Jeffy. You need Brag/Bewitch/Bamboozle (6ish mainstat) to be let through without interrupting his work.
- Find Librum Umbra Malum Ovilla in the bottom row of the stacks.
- If you didn't stop Wormwood, he notices the book you're taking. He gives you the Old Dean's incantation, opening up another way to end the game.

- Any of the names on the doors of the infinite hallway (Araiza, Ashe, Badger, Brent, Burchett, Freling, Ginn, Halsey, Prasad, Redmon, Talbott, etc.): "There are too many people with that name in the directory. You're too overwhelmed to look at any of them."
- Should you take the Spiders elective, looking up your own last name reveals "[Player Name], Temporary Instructor (Spiders) 1929-present." (May be a typo, as the current year in-game is 1928.)
- After using the weird leather pouch found in Gray County, you can ask Douglas about book call number 133.43152319. The title page says "DIABOLUS UNGULATA: a Direcktory of the Hooved and Horned Maters of the Realms Belowe." As you flip through the book, it opens to a page that has been accidentally marked with a blob of black wax. The page is headed "DUKE BOVICUS", and has a drawing of the spiky symbol on that pouch you found. Apparently, Bovicus is a "Greate & Heavy Lourde of the Inferno", whose domains are violence and greed, and who is known for offering lopsided deals to foolish humans who long for power. There's a description of a ritual to summon him, which involves standing in a circle drawn with chalk mixed with virgin blood, burning a beef-tallow candle, scattering cowbane, and reciting a complex incantation (which you dutifully copy down, just in case). It also notes that regularly reciting the incantation backward serves as a charm to prevent Bovicus from finding you, if you're worried about that for some reason. (You can use the weird leather pouch a second time to have him repeat this information.)
Library Stacks
- Find some hobo glyphs on the back wall. With 6 Hobo Literacy, read HOBO-RELEVANT LITERATURE NEARBY and get The Psychography of Panhandling.
- A book bound in black leather, on a pedestal in the middle of an occult ritual glyph. "This is, unmistakeably, the book you are looking for." It's an old student handbook.
- A shadow rift containing a skill book: the DiMaggio Fragments as a Pig Skinner, the Nachotic Manuscripts as a Cheese Wizard, or The King in Blue as a Jazz Agent.
WARNING: If you leave the stacks with the cursed book, you cannot return to the stacks to complete the shadow rift or get the panhandling book.
People
The folks from the Circus in West of Loathing show up here:
- Janet, the woman with gears for guts.
- Douglas, the two-fronted man, at the information desk.
- Ted, the man with an eyeball for a head, guarding the way to the stacks.
Dean Lucian Wormwood.
