Epilogue
The Epilogue begins when Uncle Murray throws his umbratanium bomb in The Black House and you're dragged into the portal. Here, the fate of the world shall be sealed, and it's your fingers on the ziplock bag of reality.
Resolution
In the void, you are met with The Shadowcaster, which you see as a swarm of mouths and eyes as the closest thing their brain can visualize without going insane. It hovers to the right of the big portal, while The President of Shadows works a console to the left. Your companion stands a little past the President.
Several options are available from this point.
Companion
If the companion that came with you has cleared both their vignettes, you can get their ending by talking to them. Get an achievement for each companion you save the world with.
- Obie the Oboe Hobo's ending requires you complete the minigame in his vignette.
- For Barker's ending, talk with the President rather than with Barker.
- Simone's ending requires that she got Chekhov's Rifle.
- Professor Adams' ending requires a vial of umbraline annihilator from the chemicals lab and interacting with Adams, then with the Shadowcaster.
- Alphonse's ending achivement will only be applied if you choose the red button at the Machine, not the green button.
The President of Shadows
Margaret seems more annoyed than concerned at your presence. She continues to fiddle with her console.
- "What is it, Barker?": If Barker is with you and both his vignettes completed, the President contemplates the dreams she lost sight of. She steps away from the console.
- Try to talk her out of this: She refuses to discuss it.
- "Do you blame yourself?" (strange memorial card): She insists she doesn't care. However....
- "This book says different.": With The Complete Works of Schmedlund Plencer, you remind her of her childhood ideals. She steps away from the console.
- Absorb her: Requires Shadow Taint level 5. She is consumed, and you can access the console.
Console
You can access the console once you deal with the President.
- Press the red button: With Shadow Taint Level 1, you allow the Shadowcaster to enter the world.
- Without shadow taint, the narrator chides you for going against your roleplaying thus far, and won't let you do it.
- With Shadow-Charged and three pylons absorbed, your character refuses: "No. I am not a servant."
- Press the green button: You disable the portal and save the world.
- If you absorbed all three pylons, your character refuses: "No. That is not what happens here."
Portal
If there's nothing to do here, the narrator suggests replaying to see what you missed.
- Insert the crystal (Yecchian chronocrystal): Insert it into the portal and save the world. Get the Somebody Else's Problem achievement.
- Read the ancient incantation (the Old Dean's incantation): Read it to save the world.
- Sacrifice yourself, for glory (Ambition): Sacrifice yourself to save the world by yanking the portal's cables out of the machine, releasing a lethal burst of shadow energy.

BE NOT AFRAID.
- Destroy it: Requires Professor Adams as the active companion, his vignettes completed, a vial of umbraline annihilator, and having spoken to Adams here so your character knows what umbraline is. Get the The Umbraline Solution achievement.
- Try something desperate: Try and fail to Brag/Bewitch/Bamboozle/Beg your way to victory. Your words have no power here.
- Fight it: Fight the Shadowcaster, plus the President if you haven't dealt with her. All companions you recruited join you in this fight.
- Surrender to it: You die. Simply said.
- Claim your throne: Requires gaining Shadow Taint Level 5 and absorbing all three pylons. (make sure not to accidentally answer the phones at the monolith sites!) If you meet those conditions, it will be the only option available.

After finishing the resolution chapter in whatever way, the game snaps to a shot of your bedroom and all the souvenirs you've collected on your journey. Suddenly the TV lights up and the narration comments on the outcomes of your actions and decisions.
