Shadow pillar
There are three shadow pillars (also called pylons or obelisks) in Government Valley, serving as the shadow power source for the Black House. You can't do anything about them until you find your Uncle Murray in the Black House courtyard.
You must destroy all three to access the Black House laboratory and subsequently the Epilogue.
Destroying the pillars
Find the pylons at:
Examine one of the pylons or talk to your uncle at its location, then decide how to deal with them.
Call in a favor
There's a pay phone next to each pylon. If you have any of these three allies available, the phone will be ringing.
- If you completed Rufus's quest line, answer the telephone and Rufus opens some portals to destroy the pylon.
- If you completed Don Toblerone's quest line, answer the pay phone and Don Toblerone calls in his goons to destroy the pylon.
- If you brought at least 10 hobos to the Hobo Camp, pick up the phone and King Johnny sends some hobos to destroy the pylon.
Note: Each faction can only destroy one pylon for you. Rufus answers the first phone if he's available, then the Mob, then the Hobo King, no matter which of the three pylons you visit first.
Banish the shadow
If you have the shadow-banishing ring equipped and have banished wandering shadows at least 13 times, you can throw the ring at the pylon, destroying both. Since you lose the ring, you can only get rid of one pylon with it.
Consume the shadow
If you have Shadow Taint level 5, drink the shadow to destroy the pylon. You become Shadow-Charged which, if you drink all three pylons, drastically alters your options for the ending.

Talk to Murray about the option to fight. Defeat the Pillartron to win. The Pillartron Guardian Modules fly away on their turn if the Pillartron is defeated.
After you defeat one pillar, the other two gain an extra Guardian Module in their fight.
Do something stupid
If you are all out of other ideas, just flail at the thing with your body. You destroy it and gain a debuff perk.
- If you've destroyed no pylons this way: Try repeatedly punching it and get Cracked Knuckles for -1 Muscle.
- If you've destroyed one pylon this way: Do the head-banging thing and get Full-Body Concussion for -1 Mysticality.
- If you've destroyed two pylons this way: Chomp chomp chomp and get Shattered Teeth for -1 Moxie.
Now that you've read the word pylon more times than you probably had in your life before today, travel back to The Black House for the final confrontation.
