You can find the Hobo Camp in Ocean City after you help out enough hobos that word gets around of your good deeds.

Hobos

All the hobos found in the camp, or recruited from other places to here, will give +1 Hobo Literacy when you ask them about hobo code. Some of them require that you first recruit them to the camp or do some other task.

There is one hobo, selling pencils in front of Fission Chips, who can't be recruited to the camp. He can still increase your Hobo Literacy after you bring him an S.I.T. coffee mug.

Most hobos refuse to talk to you if you have Shadow Taint level 3 or higher. Obie, Agamemnon, and the pencil guy are the exceptions.

Counting and rewards

Your save file adds 1 to the hobocamp_total flag each time you recruit a hobo.

• Fifty-Two, Johnny, Letters, Veronica, and Washy begin at the camp. They do not count toward hobocamp_total.
• Howie, Gus, and Samuel also do not count toward hobocamp_total, despite being recruitable.
• With hobocamp_total = 10 or greater, the hobos can help you destroy a pillar in Government Valley in Chapter 6.
• With hobocamp_total = 14 (the maximum), when you ask Johnny about his plans, he awards you The Grand Token of the Hobo Empire.
• For 14, you also earn the achievement "The Gang's All Here". (Untested: Does the achievement require Howie, Gus, and Samuel as well?)

To find what your hobocamp_total is, subtract 9 from your Hobo Literacy level. This assumes you've learned hobo codes from everyone at camp including Howie, Gus, and Samuel, plus the pencil-seller at Fission Chips.

Locations

Hobo Camp

• Get Warm Hands effect once per day (+3 Cold Armor).

Shuteye Boxcar

• Any attempt to move past the center will be greeted with "You probably shouldn't mess around in here, you'll wake people up."
• When Ovid joins the camp, this boxcar gets furnished with his double-sided bed by the masses, but you will still get the above prompt.

Grub Boxcar

• Until you recruit any food-providing hobos, a sign indicates the grub car is BYOG.

Cryptography Boxcar

• Find heavy boots after talking to Letters.

• Some of the hobos' names are a pun to specific item or things.
