Progressing the time travel quest in Crystaldream Lake

The Delphine Farmhouse is where you can break the curse of the Möbius ring and prevent a temporal paradox. To reach this location, you must:

Inside the house, performing any of the twelve (to sixteen, including hint-giving) steps out of order will portal you back outside, resetting the house's state and removing any quest items you obtained inside it.

Quests

To break the curse of the Möbius ring, you need to do the following actions in order:

  1. Take the small brass candlestick from the mantel.
  2. Raid the bathroom medicine cabinet. When you do this for the second+ time, items disappear as you take them, rather than getting another copy.
  3. Grab the kindling hatchet behind the woodpile.
    • If you talked to your bookshelf-leanin' self for a hint, wait at the bookshelf for your past self.
  4. Throw the candlestick against the attic door (above the tiny rug) in the left bedroom.
  5. Enter the attic and rummage through the crates to reveal a hole in the floor.
  6. Leave down the hole so your past self doesn't see you.
  7. Unlock the bedroom door from inside.
    • If you talked to your table-loungin' self for a hint, wait at the dining table for your past self.
  8. Grab the jar of plant food from the kitchenette.
  9. Smash the urn between the bedroom doors to get Delphine house key.
    • If you talked to your desk-perchin' self for a hint, wait on the left bedroom desk for your past self.
  10. Flush the bathroom toilet.
  11. Feed the plant in the left bedroom to get a small brass key.
    • If you talked to your chair-sittin' self for a hint, wait in the right bedroom chair for your past self.
  12. Unlock the shoebox in the right bedroom to get the Möbius ring.

You can now leave the house without having to start over. Chester congratulates you. He reminds you to give the Möbius ring to yourself on the road, and he draws a little spiral on your postcard of Crystaldream Lake.

Find your past self in Crystaldream Lake wander events to hand over the ring and be free of this wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey curse.

Locations

  • Chester, an old man in a rocking chair. You can ask him questions, but he doesn't have much information to give you.
  • Exit to either side of the screen to find yourself in front of the same house again.
  • As you enter the house, an older version of you exits and gives you the rundown.
    • The ring is in this house.
    • You have to complete about a dozen tasks while keeping the timeline consistent.
    • If you mess up, you have to start over.
    • The process is part logic, part trial and error.
    • You can ask your futures selves for hints, but then you'll need to give that same hint to your past self later.

Inside

  • A guestbook with your signature and today's date already in it.
  • Left bedroom door.
  • A future self lounging at a table with a hint:
"I can tell you what I told me, which is that you have to raid the medicine cabinet in the bathroom before you get the hatchet. And I can verify that, because I've done both. The only other thing is to remind you to have this conversation again after you unlock the locked room, because that's when you'll be me."
  • A funerary urn. With kindling hatchet, smash it to reset or (step 9) get Delphine house key.
  • Right bedroom door, locked. Attempting to unlock it with the cursed key causes a reset.
  • A future self leaning on a bookshelf with a hint:
"I can tell you about that door behind me. You have to unlock it before you find the key to it. Yeah, sorry. I only just got here, so I don't know much. The last thing I did was get the hatchet out of that woodpile, so now I have to talk to you, because I talked to me. So, uh... don't forget to do that."
  • A stove and a stack of logs. Search the logs to reset or (step 3) find a kindling hatchet. Your nearby self disappears.
  • A fireplace with two candlesticks on the mantel. (step 1) Grab a small brass candlestick. Taking another causes a reset.
  • Bathroom door.
  • A kitchenette. Search it and take the plant food to reset or (step 8) get a jar of plant food.

Bathroom

  • A bathtub the narrator will never have anything to say about. Unlike all other tubs in the game, you can't fish in this one.
  • Raid the medicine cabinet to reset or (step 2) get a gauze pad and styptic pencil. Unlike other items from the house, you keep these on a reset.
  • Flush the toilet to reset or (step 10) get XP like other toilets. Unlike all other toilets, there's no fishing to do in it.

I guess this bathroom isn't like other bathrooms.

Left Bedroom

  • A future self perching on the desk with a hint:
"Just what I told me, which is that you smash the urn after throwing the candlestick. A fair amount of time after. And then, since you asked me, the next thing after that is to sit on this desk until you show up so you can repeat all of this."
  • A small pot under the window. With jar of plant food, reset or (step 11) find a small brass key.
  • A little throw rug tacked to the floor. With kindling hatchet, you hear a noise upstairs and notice an attic hatch. (step 4) Throw the candlestick at the hatch to lower the attic stairs.
  • A wardrobe containing a pretty hip jacket. You leave it alone.

Attic

Unlocked with the attic hatch in the left bedroom.

  • Crates to rummage through. (step 5) Stack them up to reveal a hole in the floor.
  • The hole in the floor (step 6) leads to the bedroom.

Right Bedroom

Initially locked, you can enter via the attic, then you're free to go in and out.

  • An owl skeleton.
  • A future self sitting in an armchair with a hint:
"God, finally. This is the last thing I have to do before I can finally get out of here. Well, the next-to-last thing. The last thing is opening that box, obviously. Here's the hint: getting the plant food comes before flushing the toilet. After you feed the plant, you're me. Now, please leave the room. I want to be alone when I finally open that box."
  • A locked shoebox. With cursed key, attempt to unlock it to reset. With small brass key, (step 12) finally get the future Möbius ring to give to your past self.
  • Door to the main room. (step 7) Unlock it from inside.

People

  • Several time copies of yourself.
  • Chester Möbius, a jewelrycrafter. He made the magic ring in an attempt to prevent himself from ever dying. It worked, though not the way he intended, since he's stuck at this house for the remainder of his existence. He seems pretty content with it, though, and he assures you he's fine.
