Gathering

Shadows over Loathing has three gathering skills: Cryptobotanist, Insectologist, and Psychogeologist. During wander events, you gather various crafting ingredients:

• eldritch mist
• energizing powder
• frosty flakes
• fustulent grulch
• glowing ooze
• hematic ichor
• impenetrable shellac
• phlogistic resin
• powerful grit
• sordid grease
• stylish gel

The text of the gathering events vary depending on your choice, but the results are mechanically the same. There are also many spots where you can extract ingredients from nearby plants, bugs, or rocks.

You also get 5 when gathering if you have the 50XP perk, which grants a combat bonus as well:

• Cryptobotanists get Photosynthetic for +3 HP regen.
• Insectologists have Arthropod Affinity for 1 extra Maximum AP (action point).
• Psychogeologists with a Stony Heart have +1 innate Physical Armor.

With a 100XP perk — Entire Green Hand, Entomologist's Grace, or Lapidary Empathy — you get double the items when gathering in wander events.

At crafting stations, you can convert the ingredients into basic useful items at a 1:1 rate. Or combine one with:

• anarchist's hardware for advanced combat items
• mana-enriched flour for advanced foods
• miscellaneous chemicals for advanced potions

No skills or unlocks are required to craft; all 66 recipes are available if you have the ingredients at the appropriate station.
