Quests

Rhonda Rasmussen needs a truckload of macadam, 3cm quarried rocks. With experimentation, you can find that either

• Reload, Pound, Crush, Crush, Polish or
• Reload, Pound, Pound, Crush, Crush

will give 3 cm rocks. (Rhonda will comment on whether the rocks are polished or rough, but they both function the same.)

Puzzle Rules:

• The reload lever pulls in a fresh 52 cm payload at any time, destroying the previous if there is one.
• Crush divides payload diameter by 3, rounding down.
• Pound reduces payload by 11 cm.
• Polish reduces payload by 1 cm, but can only be used once per reload.
• The units lever toggles between centimeters and inches, for convenience or lack thereof.
• If the payload goes below 1 cm, it is smashed to powder.
• The dump lever loads the truck, solving the puzzle. It can only be used if the payload is exactly 3 cm.

Once the truck is loaded, you can drive it back to the Crash Site. The narrator pesters you to return the truck; it is possible to do so, albeit for no real reward besides being civic-minded and doing the right thing.

Working backward from the answer: Crush at 9,10,11 = 3 (win) Pound at 14 = 3 (win) Polish at 4 = 3 (win) Crush at 12,13 = 4 (win with polish) Pound at 15 = 4 (win with polish) Therefore if we can get to one of 9,10,11,14 (with or without prev. polish) or 12,13,15 (without prev. polish), we win. Working forwards from the start: We can get to 17 (crush:52/3) or 41 (pound:52-11) fairly easily. Combining the working-from-start and working-from-end: 17 doesn't work but 41/3 = 13 (which we know is a win) Therefore: Pound: 52 - 11 = 41 Crush: 41 / 3 = 13 Crush: 13 / 3 = 4 Polish: 4 - 1 = 3

Interactions

• A large Quarr-matic machine with buttons.
• Find an abandoned gatorman campsite and one of:
  • Charles' wrench (first campsite found)
  • Charles' other wrench (second campsite found)
  • Charles' wrench set and unlock Gatorman Fortress (third campsite found)
  • Does not show up if three other campsites have been found elsewhere.
• Psychogeologist: gather stylish gel (3) from the rock with sunglasses.
• A Shadow Pouch
• Some Hobo glyphs requiring 14 Hobo Literacy to read, giving "X MARKS A VEIN OF ROCK CANDY ORE".
  • A rock with an X on it can now be mined with a pick-axe to get pure rock candy.
