You flip through the almanac. Just seeing the list of sports gives you a bunch of new ideas about balls.

If you realy dug into the statistics, you could probably learn even more. (If you do, Throw Ball will deal 2 additional damage)
Second time, with 100 XP (consumed on use):
You study the numbers until all of the zeroes start to look like soccer balls, and all the eights start to look like pairs of soccer balls.

Mistaking the book for a bunch of soccer balls, you accidentally kick it into an open sewer.
