Below are some individual testaments on the best gear.

The gamereaper

when you are playing, you want to be able to play well. this is hard sometimes because you don't know what to use, so I personally equip my character with:

1. black hat
2. smiling face button
3. artillery sabre
4. army issue sidearm
5. sweet- smellin' flowers
6. military-school class ring
7. black denim pants
8. black boots

I tend to play as a snake oiler and find it handy to have maximum range damage on my side.

the best things tend to be things like: strange gun, sweet cowboy hat, ect. i always use what i feel is best so feel free to experiment around with what you find.

This is not the same person that wrote above. To contrast, I like to play as snake oiler too, but equip my character with the

1. Really nice Cowboy hat (with the Frisco Viper Snakeskin on) (silver plated)
2. Smiling Face Button
3. Varmint skinnin' knife (sharpened) (silver plated)
4. El Vibrato Pistol or New-fangled pistol (silver plated)
5. Strange Glass Rectangle, but I switch to Sweet-smellin' Flowers if I need to.
6. Huge Diamond Ring.
7. Kitchen Pants.
8. Barnaby Bob's boots, only after everything at the Circus is done and before that, Tony's Shootin' Boots.

That's the best snake oiler loadout.

Edit: 344 moxie. base 37 moxie. i do have +20 energised but my anger is only 2, so if i sleep and rebuff i get 333 moxie

Edit. it has come to my attention that the driftwood weapon in region g is better for moxie than sweet sword. i didn't buy it. seriously considering deleting account and restarting

Edit. it has also come to my attention that mrs. guns opus was not able to be got by me. i have deleted my snake oiler and am now restarting my entire run. if you cannot tell, i am a little bit dedicated to this game. will notify people when i have found out the true best gear. first i have to cry about killing 10 hours of progress. i'm sorry matt, but you have to be strong.

Second Person that wrote from the top again, tinkered around and took the DLC into account, so now I have:

1. Hat stays the same
2. Lapel stays the same
3. Mrs. Gun's Opus, as the stat boosts are REALLY helpful though to get it it's a pain in the butt
4. Barry Knife (This can be switched around depending on class, but the Moxie Boost is really useful for a Snake Oiler.)
5. Huge Diamond Ring (Like Mrs. Gun's Opus, the stat boost helps all three classes.
6. Offhand can be interchanged between the Gun Manor Pistol Token or the Strange Glass Rectangle, as one is 10 mox and the other 11 but the Token has pistol attack damage which is REALLY helpful at low levels)
7. Entire Leather Pants
8. Running Boots (Tony's Shoe Polished.)

This is just Snake Oiler, and with the best perks (Spit Free +5 M/M/M, Kurtzian Charm/Physique/Philosopher +10 M/M/M Hedge Blessing and Better Living though News +4 M/M/M Quick/Drunk and Silver Tongue +3 Moxie and 15 Pistol attack damage and the Roy Bean Spit Perk) it can be VERY deadly. Get the Spit Perk after looking at the spitoon in Frisco, as the hat is worthless to a Cow Puncher or Snake Oiler.
