Your Character Sheet in Shadows over Loathing gives you the vital statistics of your characters and an overview of your skills, perks, and effects.

  • Unspent XP – Spend this on new skills, upgrading skills, and perks from books.
  • Muscle is the favored stat of Pig Skinners. It adds to the damage of most melee weapons, such as clubs and blades.
  • Mysticality is the favored stat of Cheese Wizards. It adds to the damage of most magical weapons, such as utensils and wands.
  • Moxie is the favored stat of Jazz Agents. It adds to the damage of most ranged weapons, such as instruments and pistols.
  • Max HP is how much damage you can take before you're knocked out of the fight. Some items and effects can enhance your max HP.
If you have companions or other allies with you, you may be able to win the fight even if your character is knocked out.
  • Max AP – You use AP to perform combat skills. Basic attacks don't cost AP, while combat skills cost 1 AP each. Some items and effects increase your max AP.
  • HP RegenSome items and effects heal you at the beginning of every round of combat.
  • AP Regen – You naturally recover 1 AP every round of combat. Some items and effects allow you to regenerate more AP every turn.
  • Melee Weapon Attack – This bonus increases the damage of all your melee attacks. Some items and effects are available to increase this.
  • Magical Weapon Attack – This bonus makes your spells do more damage. Some items and effects are available to increase this.
  • Ranged Weapon Attack – This adds damage to all of your pistol attacks. Some items and effects are available to increase this.

Armor reduces the damage you take and can be gained by various items and effects. There are five different kinds of armor in Shadows over Loathing:

  • Physical Armor reduces the Physical Damage you take.
  • Cold Armor represents your protection from the cold, both the winter kind and the unnatural, magical kind. It reduces the Cold Damage you take.
  • Hot Armor represents your ability to keep your cool when things heat up. It reduces the Hot Damage you take.
  • Sleaze Armor represents your tolerance of embarrassment and also grease. It reduces the Sleaze Damage you take.
  • Spooky Armor represents your ability to withstand spooky phenomena. It reduces the Spooky Damage you take.
  • Stench Armor represents your tolerance of nasty smells. It reduces the Stench Damage you take.

Shadow Taint – Ingesting shadow consumables invites the Shadow into your body. This is of course an incredibly bad idea, but it comes with a number of benefits.
